Wicklow Male Voice Choir announces with a heavy heart that our current musical director and conductor, Anthony Norton, is moving on to fresh challenges after directing the choir for some 8 years. He will be vacating the role after our scheduled June concert in Germany.

We are seeking an enthusiastic suitably qualified individual to lead the choir in rehearsals and performances from September 2025 onwards.

 

About the Choir

Founded in 1998, the choir comprises some 50 members evenly spread across the four voice parts (TTBB). Our repertoire is wide ranging and includes songs in the popular, classical, Irish, Christmas and spiritual music categories.  Over the years the choir has won competitions all over Ireland (New Ross, Sligo, Bangor, Kilkenny, Navan , Arklow and Castlebar). Our concerts typically feature well known performers and sometimes bursary winners.. We have put on Christmas performances in the National Opera House and Leinster House. Shows have been performed in the towns with which Wicklow is twinned (Montigny, France, Einchenzell, Germany and Porthmadog, Wales) and also in Poland and Nothern Ireland. 
 

 

Requirements

  • Extensive experience of directing a large-scale amateur choir including leading rehearsals, teaching vocal techniques and promoting high standards of performance.
  • Good keyboard skills.
  • Preparation of line recordings for members.
  • Knowledge and experience of planning concert repertoire in conjunction with the Committee to provide the variety and challenge which will enthuse choir members and audiences.
  • Book suitable accompanists for rehearsals and performances.
  • Screen applicants for appropriateness of membership.
  • Conduct weekly rehearsals (currently Tuesday evenings from 20:00 – 22:00 in Wicklow town).

Remuneration will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.
